INTRODUCED BY

AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A MEDICAID IN THE SCHOOLS SYSTEM.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the human services department for expenditure in fiscal year 2003 for the implementation of a computerized rapid front-end enrollment, eligibility, case management, collection and payment system that aligns medicaid in the school providers with federal guidelines and audit requirements. The medicaid in the schools system will avoid the confidentiality problems experienced under the current system by providing electronic connections between enrollment, eligibility and collection systems that will unify and avoid the need for human contact, viewing or manipulation of the data. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.
