AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING FOR EMERGING AMERICAN INDIAN MUSICIANS IN NEW MEXICO; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the tourism department for expenditure in fiscal years 2002 and 2003 to contract to provide opportunities for emerging American Indian musicians to develop skills in performance, promotion, marketing and other professional business practices while creating public awareness, appreciation and markets for American Indian music and emerging American Indian musicians and strengthening recognition of New Mexico as the prime tourist destination for American Indian culture. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
