AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO RESTORE CHILD CARE ASSISTANCE FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Seventeen million dollars ($17,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the children, youth and families department for expenditure in fiscal years 2002 and 2003 for the purpose of restoring child care assistance to low-income families earning between one hundred and two hundred percent of the federal poverty level. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
