45th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first special session, 2001
CONDEMNING TERRORIST ATTACKS AND SUPPORTING OUR PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS IN THEIR RESPONSE TO OUR NATIONAL CRISIS.
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, America was suddenly and brutally attacked by foreign terrorists; and
WHEREAS, these terrorists hijacked and destroyed four civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth was diverted from its original target; and
WHEREAS, these cowardly acts were by far the deadliest terrorist attacks ever launched against the United States and, by targeting symbols of American strength and success, clearly were intended to harm our nation and weaken its resolve; and
WHEREAS, these horrific events have affected all Americans and indeed impacted the future of our safety both nationally and internationally; and
WHEREAS, these cowardly acts of terrorism resolve us as Americans to respond through our heritage, as a nation standing tall and proud, to confront and combat terrorism;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the cowardly and deadly actions of these terrorists be condemned; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature of the state of New Mexico support the president of the United States as he works with his national security team to defend against additional attacks, to find the terrorists, their harbors and support systems and to bring them to justice; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature of the state of New Mexico recommends that relief efforts be supported by New Mexico residents in whatever capacity can be expressed.
