REQUESTING THE CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE QUALITY INITIATIVES FOR RURAL CHILD-CARE PROVIDERS.
WHEREAS, all children in New Mexico deserve quality child care; and
WHEREAS, child-care providers in rural areas do not have the same access to resources as child-care providers in metropolitan areas; and
WHEREAS, child-care providers in rural areas receive substantially lower reimbursement rates than child-care providers in metropolitan areas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the children, youth and families department be requested to utilize five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) from the federal child care block grant to provide for quality initiatives to child-care providers located outside of a metropolitan statistical area; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of children, youth and families.
