SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 179 provides for the cancellation of deceased person's voter registration.
Significant Issues
The bill amends Section 1-4-25 NMSA 1978 by providing that the State Registrar of Vital Statistics shall file monthly reports with the Secretary of State of deceased residents over the age of eighteen, sorted by county, regardless of the place of death. The Secretary of State must then provide a monthly certified list of deceased residents to each county clerk, who will then, in turn, cancel any deceased resident's certificate of registration.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
There are no appropriations or significant fiscal implication contained in this bill.
