SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Joint Memorial 12 requests the State Department of Education (SDE), Office of the Governor, State Workforce Development Board and public and private School-To-Work Partners to develop a school-to-work sustainability plan.
Significant Issues
The New Mexico school-to-work initiative is a partnership of employers, educators and community groups that prepare students for careers and high academic achievement. Funding for this initiative will terminate in FY02.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
No fiscal impact.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
According to the SDE, legislation enacted to support the sustainability of School-to Work would impact the SDE as it would be a major participant in sustainability efforts. Impacts might include reassignment of staff in order to complete the plan.
TECHNICAL ISSUES
According to the SDE, Carl Perkins funding referred to in paragraph four of this bill is to be used at grades 7-14, not K-14.
