AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO TO PAY FOR THE OPERATING EXPENSES OF THE CORINNE WOLFE CHILDREN'S LAW CENTER, WHICH OPERATES WITHIN THE INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC LAW OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO SCHOOL OF LAW.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 for the purpose of paying for the operating expenses of the Corinne Wolfe children's law center, which operates within the institute of public law of the university of New Mexico school of law. The appropriation shall be used to pay for:

(1) salaries and benefits for a director, a staff attorney and administrative support staff; and

(2) the provision of training, technical assistance, research assistance and information dissemination in the areas of child abuse, child neglect and juvenile justice. The training, technical assistance, research assistance and information dissemination shall be made available to persons who participate in child abuse proceedings, child neglect proceedings and the juvenile justice system, including volunteers, attorneys and professionals who are not employed by the judicial branch of government.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2001.
