AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A STATEWIDE PRESCRIPTION DRUG DISCOUNT PROGRAM UTILIZING THE PURCHASING POTENTIAL OF A NATIVE AMERICAN PRESCRIPTION DRUG PROGRAM; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION--PURPOSE.--Twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state agency on aging for expenditure in fiscal years 2001 and 2002 for the purpose of assessing the potential and, in cooperation with Native American tribes, the New Mexico office of Indian affairs, the human services department and other appropriate state agencies, initiating any necessary planning and waivers to establish a prescription drug bulk purchasing program utilizing the special prescription drug purchasing prerogatives of one or more Native American prescription drug programs. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
