MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY FOR VARIOUS WATER-RELATED RESEARCH AND CONSERVATION PROGRAMS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--
A. One million five hundred thirty-eight thousand eight hundred dollars ($1,538,800) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico state university for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 in the following amounts for the following purposes:
(1) six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) for the water resources research institute to conduct research on aquatic species;
(2) one hundred thirty-eight thousand one hundred sixty dollars ($138,160) for the agricultural experiment station to conduct science-based water use education and research programs for best management practices;
(3) three hundred thousand six hundred forty dollars ($300,640) for the cooperative extension service to conduct science-based water use education and research programs for best management practices; and
(4) five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) for soil and water conservation districts to carry out best management practice watershed management and restoration projects by providing technical and financial incentives to landowners.
B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
