RELATING TO THE PUBLIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE; MAKING APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF RESTORING SCHOOL BUS ROUTES IN RURAL AREAS DAMAGED BY RECENT STORMS AND THAWS; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS--EMERGENCY RESTORATION OF DAMAGED SCHOOL BUS ROUTES.--The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the department of public safety for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the purpose of restoring county roads used as school bus routes and damaged by recent storms and thaws. The appropriations shall be used to supplement any relief provided pursuant to a declaration of emergency by the governor under Sections 6-7-1 through 6-7-3 NMSA 1978 and may be used to satisfy any cost-sharing requirement for assistance granted pursuant to those sections. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund:
A. three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to restore the school bus routes in Mora county;
B. three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to restore the school bus routes in Union county;
C. three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to restore the school bus routes in Harding county;
D. three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to restore the school bus routes in San Miguel county;
E. three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to restore the school bus routes in Guadalupe county;
F. three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to restore the school bus routes in Torrance county; and
G. three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to restore the school bus routes in Santa Fe county.
Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
