MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE NEW MEXICO OFFICE OF INDIAN AFFAIRS TO FUND ESTABLISHMENT OF AN OFFICE IN THE EASTERN NAVAJO AGENCY OF THE NAVAJO NATION TO PROVIDE INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE TO FORMER NAVAJO URANIUM WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Sixty thousand dollars ($60,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico office of Indian affairs for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 for the purpose of establishing an eastern Navajo agency uranium office as an affiliate of the office of Navajo uranium workers of the Navajo Nation. The office will provide information and community education about the federal Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, as amended, to former Navajo uranium workers and their families in the eastern Navajo agency and to assist the individuals and families who may be victims of radiation exposure from uranium mining to receive federal benefits available from the uranium miners compensation fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
