MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO FUND A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY THAT IMPROVES LITERACY THROUGH READING, MATH AND SCIENCE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 for the purpose of funding a professional development academy for teachers. The academy is designed to improve student literacy by designing a reading, math and science teacher professional development program that will provide participants with work-related experiences for use in classroom instruction. Expenditure of this appropriation is contingent upon obtaining an equal or greater amount of matching funds from sources other than state funds. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
