AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FROM THE TOBACCO SETTLEMENT PERMANENT FUND TO ESTABLISH A MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH PROGRAM IN HUMAN GENOMICS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two million three hundred sixty thousand dollars ($2,360,000) is appropriated from the tobacco settlement permanent fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal years 2001 through 2003 to enable the university of New Mexico cancer center, school of medicine and health sciences center to establish a multidisciplinary research program in human genomics. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2003 shall revert to the tobacco settlement permanent fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
