A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE SOCIEDAD PROTECCION MUTUA DE TRABAJADORES UNIDOS FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE TO PEOPLE OF HISPANIC ORIGIN.



WHEREAS, sociedad proteccion mutua de trabajadores unidos was founded in Antonito, Colorado in 1900 by Celedonio Mondragon and six other gentlemen who recognized that times were difficult and had the foresight to come together as one; and

WHEREAS, the sociedad has established councils in New Mexico, Colorado and Utah, with its superior council located in Antonito, Colorado;

WHEREAS, the guiding principles the sociedad was founded on are to protect members' common heritage, culture and language, to protect widows and widowers and families left behind, to help all people of Hispanic origin in partaking the prosperity and rights of this world, fighting against discrimination that at times befalls the people like it did their ancestors, and to preserve the culture, heritage and labor privileges for Hispanics and the Spanish language; and

WHEREAS, the sociedad furthers these objectives by presenting scholarships, getting involved in school activities and sponsoring some of their own activities and events; and

WHEREAS, the approach of the sociedad is peaceful and nonviolent in meeting its objectives;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that recognition be extended to the sociedad proteccion mutua de trabajadores unidos for their dedication and devotion.
