PROCLAIMING JANUARY 26, 2000 AS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY DAY.
WHEREAS, the goals of the New Mexico occupational therapy association and the American occupational therapy association are to obtain the highest functional level for people of all ages who are ill, injured or disabled citizens and to promote preventive measures and maintain wellness in our communities through educational practice and awareness intervention; and
WHEREAS, occupational therapy plays an integral role in total health care in settings such as schools, hospitals, outpatient rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, home health care, psychiatric facilities and community mental health centers; and
WHEREAS, occupational therapists provide New Mexico families with choices and opportunities to overcome obstacles that interfere with activities of daily living by adapting environments, simplifying tasks and providing specialized equipment;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 26, 2000 be proclaimed "Occupational Therapy Day" and that all citizens be asked to join in recognizing the efforts of occupational therapists and certified occupational therapist assistants to better inform citizens of the occupational therapy services that are available to them and of the opportunities for rewarding and satisfying careers that may be found in occupational therapy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico occupational therapy association and to the American occupational therapy association.
