REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TO STUDY AND ADDRESS SAFETY ISSUES ON COORS ROAD IN THE SOUTH VALLEY OF BERNALILLO COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the population of the south valley has grown tremendously over the last few years, and there has been a significant increase in traffic on Coors road from interstate 25 north to Arenal road in the south valley; and
WHEREAS, Coors road is now a major arterial route, with many side roads entering it; and
WHEREAS, speed limits on Coors road are still those of a rural area, and they are too high for the population density and traffic use;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway and transportation department be requested to study and address the safety issues on Coors road; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the study address the need for traffic signals, lighting, speed limits and all other road safety concerns; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the state highway and transportation department.
