Your EDUCATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred
HOUSE JOINT MEMORIAL 3
has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:
1. On page 1, line 18, strike "many" and insert in lieu thereof "some".
2. On page 1, lines 19 and 20, strike "memory, attention, concentration and overall learning" and insert in lieu thereof "health, and children are at greater risk from pesticide exposure than most adults because pound for pound of body weight, children breathe more, eat more and move more and have more rapid metabolisms than adults; and
WHEREAS, children also play on the floor and lawn where pesticides are commonly applied".
3. On page 1, line 22, strike "violent behavior" and insert in lieu thereof "health risks".
4. On page 1, line 23, after "of" insert "some".
5. On page 2, line 9, strike "is" and insert in lieu thereof "can be".
6. On page 3, line 2, after "education" insert "and the department of environment in consultation with the state department of agriculture".
7. On page 3, line 4, after "schools" insert "and prohibit the use of pesticides when children and school staff are present".
8. On page 3, line 7, after "applicators" insert "or persons working under their supervision".,
and thence referred to the APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE COMMITTEE.
