SUMMARY



Synopsis of Bill



The bill requests that the Governor, the State Board of Education and the State Department of Education identify methods for better integration of the social and juvenile justice support systems in the public schools.



Significant Issues



The bill recognizes the significance of a strong, supportive relationship between the schools and the social and juvenile justice systems if students are to achieve in public school settings. It requests that the Governor, the State Board of Education and the State Department of Education identify ways to improve the integration of social and juvenile justice support systems into the public schools.



The bill requests that the results and recommendations be reported to the appropriate legislative committees by October 2000.



ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS



SDE staff will be required to conduct the study in cooperation with other affected state agencies.
