SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 112 extends the life of the coal surface mining commission by six years. The commission is currently scheduled to sunset on July 1, 2000.
Significant Issues
The coal surface mining commission provides essential functions for two of the three major programs the Mining and Minerals Division administers, including the coal mine reclamation program and the abandoned mine land program.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
If the commission is not reauthorized, the Mining and Minerals Division could lose approximately $2.0 million in federal funds.
