SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 71 provides that retired magistrate judges appointed by district judges to serve as magistrate judges pro tempore shall be compensated at an hourly rate equal to that of an acting magistrate judge. The compensation is in addition to per diem and mileage reimbursement.

Significant Issues

Currently, magistrate judges pro tempore are compensated only with per diem and mileage reimbursement.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

Senate Bill 71 appropriates $20.0 in general fund to the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC).
