Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 62 appropriates $250.0 from the general fund to the library division of the office of cultural affairs to contract with statewide non-profit adult literacy programs. The appropriation is designated for program management and operating support for community-based literacy programs, who use volunteers, emphasizing intergenerational and family techniques designed to improve literacy skills within families. The bill contains a reversion clause.
Significant Issues
The State Library Division has been budgeted $400.0 in past years and in FY01 to provide support for adult literacy programs.

Aside from the appropriation in Senate Bill 62, enactment would not have a fiscal impact on the division.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The impact of the additional funding would have a minor impact, which the division would be able to absorb because of its existing literacy program.
