SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

To install traffic signals to provide safe crossings, ingress and egress to the Santa Fe Bypass (NM 599) intersections with Santa Fe County Roads 62 and 70 and also with Camino de los Montoyas and Ephraim Street; and

Work with federal and local highway agencies and local communities to improve the safety of the bypass and ensure that future connections are safe and that input and comments from the affected communities are addressed.

Significant Issues

Traffic signals on state highways are governed by the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. A signalization project must clearly meet the criteria of one or more signal warrants as defined in the manual. All traffic signals on state highways must be designed, constructed and maintained in accordance with criteria in this manual.

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES

When construction of the bypass is completed, the department will perform warrant studies on NM 599 intersections with Santa Fe County Roads 62 and 70, Camino do los Montoyas and Ephraim Street. If these intersections meet warrants, the information will be analyzed and prioritized with the department's statewide Traffic Signal Program. Priority is based on the number of warrants satisfied. Project development is based on priority and funding availability.

The department will continue to work with federal and local highway agencies and local communities to improve the safety of the bypass and ensure those future connections are safe and that input and comments from affected communities are addressed.
