SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Education Committee (HEC) Substitute for House Joint Memorials 76 and 79 requests that the SDE and the Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) assess the Compulsory School Attendance Law and the Family in Need of Services Act and make recommendations how both laws may be reconciled and more effectively implemented.
The HEC substitute also requests that parents and members of the community be involved in the assessment process and in developing the recommendations.
The agencies involved are to report their findings to the Legislative Education Study Committee and to the appropriate legislative interim committee by November 1, 2000.
Significant Issues
The HEC substitute combines the requests of SJM 76 and SJM 79 and requests a study of the Compulsory School Attendance Law and the Family in Need of Services Act.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
None. SDE and CYFD can conduct the study utilizing current resources.
