SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
The bill appropriates $100.0 to support the rural community health center family practice residency program in northern New Mexico.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The bill appropriates $100.0 in general fund in FY00 and FY01 to the Department of Health (DOH).
This appropriation would be a program expansion as the family practice residency program is funded in DOH's base budget for FY01 in HB2/aHAFC and SB2. However, DOH indicates next Fall, a federal grant source for this program will be expiring.
The University of New Mexico operates the family practice residency program based at La Familia Medical Center in Santa Fe. UNM supports the salary compensation costs for the residents placed at the center, with other costs borne by the cooperating partners. The appropriation in the bill would offset the administrative and other associated costs of the program at La Familia Medical Center in Santa Fe.
