SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 207 appropriates $100.0 from the general fund to the New Mexico Office of Indian Affairs to contract for emergency management services in the San Juan County area.
Significant Issues
House Bill 207 would provide emergency assistance for unforeseen circumstances resulting in immediate action to sustain human lives. The OIA currently contracts general funds for travel costs, consumable supplies and other public assistance in Shiprock, New Mexico. House Bill 207 would expand the emergency management assistance into other remote areas within San Juan County.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The $100.0 appropriation from the general fund is for expenditure in fiscal year 2001. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of the fiscal year reverts to the general fund.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
House Bill 207 would have a minimal administrative impact to the OIA. The OIA would enter into a Joint Powers Agreement with a governmental entity to provide the emergency management services in San Juan County.
