This amendment makes the establishment of the Center for Information Technology contingent upon receipt of federal funds.

This bill appropriates $200.0 from the general fund to the Board of Regents of the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology to establish a Center for Information Technology.

According to NMIMT, this bill provides funds to support a potential U.S. Department of Energy grant, the focus of which is to research approaches to increase information systems network security and counter computer hackers.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $200.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY01 shall revert to the general fund.
