SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

The bill appropriates $500.0 to fully fund the operations and programs of the Indian area agency on aging.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The bill appropriates $500.0 in general fund in FY01 to the State Agency on Aging.

CONFLICT/DUPLICATION/COMPANIONSHIP/RELATIONSHIP

HB11 relates to HB2/HAFCs and SB2, the General Appropriation Acts. HB2/HAFCs contains $24,545.9 for State Agency on Aging services including contracting with the area agencies on aging and the Indian area agency on aging. SB2 contains $24,168.5 for the same purposes.

The State Agency on Aging indicates HB11 also relates to HB133 in that the Indian area agency on aging also requested $500.0 for operation of the local providers for the pueblos and Apache tribes.

OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES

The Office of Indian Affairs indicates the $500.0 appropriation contained in the bill would be used to fund an activities coordinator, outreach worker/driver, homemaker/housekeeper and a grant writer/health insurance and benefits assistance corps (HIBAC) coordinator. These new positions would be used to assist the Pueblos of Picuris, Santo Domingo, San Juan, Acoma and the Mescalero tribe.
