AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE OFFICE OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR THE SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF NEW MEXICO HISTORIC ROUTE 66.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Eight hundred thousand dollars ($800,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the office of cultural affairs for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 in the following amounts for the following purposes:

(1) four hundred fifty thousand dollars ($450,000) for local and regional activities associated with the preservation, conservation and education of historic route 66 assets and the development, promotion and marketing of the statewide "national diamond jubilee" celebration of historic route 66 in New Mexico's historic route 66 towns and route 66 Native American communities;

(2) two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) for local and regional activities associated with the development, promotion and marketing of "remember the route", the official national celebration of historic route 66 to be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, July 20-22, 2001; and

(3) one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) for statewide preservation, education and interpretive work of New Mexico's historic route 66 assets.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
