MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PROVIDE A PAY INCREASE FOR FIRST-YEAR CERTIFIED TEACHERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Four hundred eighty-five thousand dollars ($485,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 to provide first-year certified teachers in public schools a pay increase. The pay increase shall be for all first-year certified teachers in schools in which ninety percent or more of the students receive free or reduced-fee lunch. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
