A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING A STUDY FOR RESPONSIBLE SPENDING IN HIGHER EDUCATION.
WHEREAS, there has been much media attention on spending at colleges and universities throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, there are thirty-two separate public boards of various community colleges, universities, tribal colleges and specialty schools within higher education in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, all New Mexico higher education institutions engage in the spending of taxpayer money; and
WHEREAS, all New Mexico higher education institutions engage in travel and international travel; and
WHEREAS, all New Mexico higher education institutions have procurement policies and travel policies; and
WHEREAS, the constitutionally established universities and colleges have exemptions to the Procurement Code and various travel codes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the higher education department be requested to conduct a study that examines and reviews all public institutions of higher education expenditures, procurement policies and travel policies made under the Procurement Code and institutional travel codes and those expenditures made by universities and colleges that are exempt from the Procurement Code and travel codes; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the higher education department.
