INTRODUCED BY

A MEMORIAL

DESIGNATING "THE BREWERY DISTRICT" IN ALBUQUERQUE.

     WHEREAS, the creation of local brews is an exciting cultural phenomenon found in cities nationwide; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico boasts over three dozen established microbreweries and brew pubs dotting scenic byways and main streets across the state; and

     WHEREAS, microbrewers and distilleries are becoming an important part of New Mexico's small business economy; and

     WHEREAS, the establishment and growth of local microbreweries has a revitalization effect on surrounding neighborhoods, bringing communities together, bolstering local pride and creating local jobs; and

     WHEREAS, while the entire state is an excellent location for microbreweries and distilleries, a particular area in Albuquerque is home to three such businesses; and

     WHEREAS, Nexus, La Cumbre and Il Vicino breweries are located in and around the region to the north of Candelaria road, west of the north diversion channel, east of interstate 25 and south of Jefferson street; and

     WHEREAS, these three businesses already create an informal "cluster" of brewery businesses where managers and customers enjoy the proximity of the three businesses; and

     WHEREAS, this area has become a popular destination for New Mexicans seeking to enjoy, and to work for, microbreweries;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the Albuquerque area in and around the region north of Candelaria road, west of the north diversion channel, east of interstate 25 and south of Jefferson street

be referred to and branded as "the brewery district"; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the owners of Nexus, La Cumbre and Il Vicino breweries.
